Embark On An Outdoor Adventure

Are you a nature lover? Lee’s Summit has everything you need for an unforgettable outdoor experience, from peaceful mornings spent fishing and birdwatching to scenic bike rides and spirited evenings with live music. Grab your sunglasses, pack your sense of adventure and get ready to explore!

For the Wildlife Enthusiast

Enjoy a peaceful morning at James A. Reed Memorial Wildlife Area. Grab your coffee, binoculars and fishing pole and spend a few hours enjoying the scenery and wildlife. You might even catch a fish or two!

While you're fishing, take some time to do some birdwatching. Missouri is home to a variety of birds including wild turkeys, ducks, geese and other feathered friends. Keep your eyes peeled.

For the Casual Cyclist

Head to J. Thomas Lovell Jr. Community Center for the Legacy Park loop biking trail. Bikes are available to rent in the lobby. From the community center, take the trail to Stonehaus Farms Vineyard & Winery. The ride is scenic and enjoyable and the winery is a great place to relax and enjoy the beautiful weather.

At Stonehaus Farms Vineyard & Winery, you can kick back and take in the views with their plentiful outdoor seating. Pack a lunch or pick from their variety of food options. Enjoy a wine tasting or take home a bottle to enjoy later!

On your way back to the community center, continue on the Legacy Park Loop and stop at the breathtaking Legacy Falls.

For the Foodie

Spend your day in Downtown Lee's Summit! Grab a coffee or pastry and sit out on the patio at Whistle Stop Coffee & Mercantile. While you shop around the variety of boutiques and small businesses, treat yourself to your favorite ice cream flavor and snag a table outside Poppy's Ice Cream & Coffee House. Finish the day with lunch or dinner outside at LLywelyn's Pub or Stuey McBrew's and enjoy live music if it's on the schedule.

For the Avid Adventurer

Are you an experienced runner or cycling enthusiast? Check out the Rock Island Trail!

Drive to Hartman Park where there is a trailhead for the trail. Bike the trail to Truman Sports Complex in Raytown, Mo. (roughly 2.5 hours and 24 miles round trip) and take in the sights of the former freight and passenger rail corridor.

Rather go on foot? Run or walk the trail for as long as you'd like! For a sightseeing opportunity, travel the trail for 3.6 miles to the Vale Tunnel, a historical landmark built in 1903-1904.
